Lesson FAQs

Learn more about your frequently asked lesson questions.

Do I need a lift ticket for my lesson?

Yes, all lesson participants are required to have a valid lift ticket or season pass to access the lifts.

Do I need rental equipment for my lesson?

If you are planning to rent skis or snowboard equipment, we request that you are fitted for rentals the evening prior to your lesson day (after 6pm). If that is not an option for you, give yourself one hour before your lesson time to complete the equipment rental and fitting process in the lower level of the Crystal Center.

Do I need a helmet for my lesson?

Helmets are required for ALL lessons at Crystal Mountain.

When should I (or my child) arrive at my lesson?

All lessons begin promptly at their designated times. Pre-registered students may go directly to the Mountain Adventure Zone Lesson Meeting Area to meet with their instructor. We are not able to accommodate late arrivals. Refunds will not be issued for late arrivals.

Should I make lesson reservations in advance?

Yes, lesson reservations should be made in advance to guarantee your spot. Same day bookings are allowed when they are available.

Can I cancel my lesson?

Are there any snack or bathroom breaks during a lesson?

What ability level am I?

Level 1: First time skier or snowboarder. Needs to learn how to stop moving downhill.

Level 2: Can ride the carpet lifts but doesn't have chairlift experience. Is able to stop on demand, and is working on turns and speed control.

Level 3: Has chairlift experience and is able to turn/stop aggressively. Comfortable on all green runs and easy blues. Working on parallel, but may wedge or step to start turns.

Level 4: Comfortable on all blue runs and is testing skills on varied terrain and snow conditions.

Is gratuity for my instructor included?

Gratuities are not included in your lesson cost, but are always appreciated if you experienced great service.

What is Flaik GPS Technology?

Flaik is a GPS-based alpine guest tracking system that your child will receive when taking a lift-served kids’ group ski or snowboard lesson.

Crystal Mountain’s Snowsports School uses Flaik technology to track their students’ progress in kids’ group lessons and ensure increased security and peace of mind for both parents and instructors. Parents and children can review and re-live the day at the end of the lesson.

What should I wear on the slopes?

A number of thinner, light layers as opposed to two thick layers will allow you to adjust what you're wearing appropriately. Wool, thermal layers, and fleece are highly recommended.

  • Wear a base layer of leggings/long underwear, tight fitted long-sleeve shirt, and one pair of high socks. Too many pairs of socks can lead to wrinkles and cause discomfort in your boots.
  • Wear a middle layer of fleece, wool, or synthetic material for warmth (sweater, sweatshirt, or down jacket.)
  • Wear waterproof or resistant pants and jacket. Jeans and cotton like sweatpants & sweatshirts get wet quickly.
  • Eye protection: Goggles or sunglasses will protect your eyes from wind and snow.
  • Gloves or Mittens: Waterproof or resistant gloves or mittens work best. Extra cold day? Mittens will keep your hands warmer.
  • Headwear: Helmets are highly recommended for all skiers and snowboarders and included with Crystal Mountain’s equipment rental packages. Helmets are required in all lessons.
  • Wearing a face mask, neck gaiter, or scarf to protect your face from the cold is also recommended.
