April Avalanche event featuring a Hike & Tube experience and spring activities
April 8, 2025
THOMPSONVILLE, Mich. (April 8, 2025) – A successful ski and snowboard season at Crystal Mountain officially came to an end on April 6, but there is still an impressive amount of snow left on the slopes that the resort plans to put to good use this weekend. “ April Avalanche ” is a unique two-day event that will offer snowy adventures, including snow tubing, as well as springtime activities, including golf.
“Instead of just watching the snow melt away on the mountain, we wanted to come up with a fun way to utilize it and hang on to the magic of winter while also welcoming spring,” said Karyn Thorr, Chief Operating Officer. “Our talented grooming team will create an avalanche allowing us to build multiple snow tubing lanes, and we are also planning for fun at the base of the slopes including a slopeside DJ, cookout and other mountain activities.”
Here's what to expect during “April Avalanche” weekend, April 12-13 from 9am-2pm:
- Hike & Tube: Experience the thrill of winter tubing on Loki. Guests will hike up and tube down. Tickets are $10 for ages 5 and older. There will also be a Tykes Tubing area for the little ones 4 and younger, tickets are $5 each. Hike & Tube is free for Crystal Mountain houseguests, Four Seasons Club members, and 2024-25 Crystal Mountain season passholders.
- Slopeside Food, Drinks and Entertainment: Groove to the tunes of a live DJ on Saturday, while enjoying a slopeside BBQ, Waffle Cabin, cornhole and beer garden on Saturday and Sunday while overlooking the snow tubing fun on Loki.
- Outdoor Adventures: Engage in exciting outdoor laser tag, rent bikes for a scenic ride, or explore the Mountain Adventure Zone Learning Area on snowshoes.
- Spring Golf Kickoff: The Crystal Mountain Golf Learning Center and Betsie Valley Golf Course are expected to open for the season on Friday, April 11, offering guests the chance to swing into spring. The course opening is weather dependent.
While thrill seekers will find ultimate fun outside, those seeking ultimate relaxation should pay a visit to Crystal Spa and take advantage of Spring Spa Days . Beginning April 11, select massages, facials and body treatments start at just $119. Services include access to Crystal Spa amenities such as the relaxation lounge, outdoor hot tub, eucalyptus steam room and infrared sauna.
"April Avalanche weekend is a fantastic opportunity for families and friends to enjoy a new winter experience at Crystal in a fun, festive atmosphere while also embracing the beginning of spring," added Marcus Matthews, Director of Recreation. “We're combining the best of winter and spring into one unforgettable weekend."
